Chen

chenBorn in the godless Hazhadal Barrens, Chen came of age among the fugitive tribes who sort a way of life in the glistening heat of the desert. Using an ancient form of animal magnetism, Chen’s people partnered the hardy desert locuthi, a stunted species of burrowing dragon that liquefied desert sands into tubes of glass where twice-a-year rains collected. Always on the edge of hunger and dehydration, fighting amongst their neighbours and each other, Chen’s clan made the crucial mistake, one day, of surprise attacking the wrong caravan.

In the ferocious battle that followed, Chen’s clan was outmatched. The armoured Knights of the Fold made short work of the spellbound locuthi, who attacked and died in waves. With their dragons dead, the tribesmen followed. Chen resisted, he slashed, and clawed, and should have died. Defeated, he faced his execution with modesty, offering his neck to the blade. Moved by Chen’s obvious courage, the executioner halted his sword. Instead of the blade, Chen was given a choice: death or conversion. Chen took to the faith with ferocity. He joined the Fold and earned his armour one bloody exchange at a time. Now, with the zeal of a convert, and with his powers of animal enthrallment at their peak, he seeks out nonbelievers and initiates them to their final reward. Knights of the Fold embrace a dedicated form of magic that is considered quite unwieldy by most other users of arcane arts. And although they may not be knights, Chen integrates beasts into the Fold in the same way he himself was transformed. Using the psychological link with his thralls, Chen calls down restitution and safety to those who share his passion. Even though Chen’s brand of animal enthrallment isn’t quite strong enough to control the minds of enemy heroes, it still challenges their tenacity in combat.

Chen the Holy Knight’s typical game play is strange than most other Heroes. Chen’s ability of Holy Persuasion lets him teleport endangered friendly units to his fountain, and also allows him to convert creeps to his side, including powerful neutral creeps. As a result, Chen is usually found in the forest searching for creeps to convert. When he finds a strong creep or two, he moves down on his unsuspecting enemies, using both his own spells and the abilities of his persuaded creeps to take them out. When trapping enemies, Chen generally uses his Penitence ability, which slows the target and causes them to take extra damage from Chen’s group. Faith can be used to terminate enemies. Chen’s support abilities encompass Hand of God, a healing spell which instantly restores a set amount of HP to all allied Heroes across the battlefield.
